RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of tomatidine (Td) on the progression of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in mice and uncover the mechanism. METHODS: T2DM mice model was induced by high-fat diet (HFD) and intrabitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ). The mice were grouped as follows: 1, control; 2, T2D; 3, T2D + tomatidine (5 mg/kg); 4, T2D + tomatidine (10 mg/kg); 5, T2D + tomatidine (20 mg/kg). Fasting blood glucose was detected by glucose metre and fasting insulin was detected by the kit to determine the effect of Td on T2DM mice. ELISA, qPCR, and Immunoblot assays were performed to detect the effects of Td on the hepatic glucose homeostasis and inflammation of mice. Immunoblot assays further confirmed the mechanism. RESULTS: Td improved blood glucose and insulin resistance in T2DM mice. In addition, Td improved liver function and lipid metabolism disorder in T2DM mice. Td also affected the liver glucose homeostasis related genes in T2DM mice. Td alleviated serum inflammation in T2DM mice. We further found that Td activated AMPK pathway, therefore ameliorating T2DM. CONCLUSION: Td ameliorated HFD/STZ-induced T2DM in mice, suggesting that it could serve as a drug of T2DM.

RESUMO

Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) is an autosomal dominant disorder. A 44-year-old man visited second Xiangya Hospital, Central South University due to hypoglycemia. He was eventually diagnosed as MEN1. A novel homozygous frameshift for c.640-643delCAGA (p.V215Mfs*13) of MEN1 gene was identified in the patient. After MDT (Multiple Disciplinary Team), open bilateral exploration with total parathyroidectomy and autotransplantation as well as partial pancreatectomy excision of all the macroscopic pancreatic tumors were performed at the same time. The patient recovered well. Individualized diagnosis and treatment are important for MEN1 patients.

RESUMO

The aim of this review was to assess the current viable technologies for wireless power delivery and data transmission through metal barriers. Using such technologies sensors enclosed in hermetical metal containers can be powered and communicate through exterior power sources without penetration of the metal wall for wire feed-throughs. In this review, we first discuss the significant and essential requirements for through-metal-wall power delivery and data transmission and then we: (1) describe three electromagnetic coupling based techniques reported in the literature, which include inductive coupling, capacitive coupling, and magnetic resonance coupling; (2) present a detailed review of wireless ultrasonic through-metal-wall power delivery and/or data transmission methods; (3) compare various ultrasonic through-metal-wall systems in modeling, transducer configuration and communication mode with sensors; (4) summarize the characteristics of electromagnetic-based and ultrasound-based systems, evaluate the challenges and development trends. We conclude that electromagnetic coupling methods are suitable for through thin non-ferromagnetic metal wall power delivery and data transmission at a relatively low data rate; piezoelectric transducer-based ultrasonic systems are particularly advantageous in achieving high power transfer efficiency and high data rates; the combination of more than one single technique may provide a more practical and reliable solution for long term operation.
